Hello,
I needed some help on where to stay when I am in Costa Rica. I plan on going there for a week and plan on doing all the activities. I wanted to see what hotels people recommended that are affordable and offer many ammenities.
I am traveling with 4 college friends and a couple are on a budget. So we are not looking for something relatively expensive, but enough to think you are getting a deal.
Let me know if you have any recommendations on “must sees” in Costa Rica.

Huetar Norte is a region in the north of Costa Rica and what is also known as, “The land of the Lapa Verde (Buffon’s green macaw parrot)” Wild rice and corn (Maize) are grown in the region. It is also a place where people work together in the management of the forests to improve their live-style. This is important because it is the only refuge in Costa Rica for the Lapa Verde and a diverse group of other species in danger of extinction.

This book tells the story of how small farmers responded to a free-market onslaught that devastated one of the Western Hemisphereâs most advanced social-democratic welfare states. In the early 1980s, the Latin American debt crisis struck Costa Rica, leading to major cutbacks in the social programs that had permitted the rural poor to attain an acceptable standard of living and a modicum of di…

Hi! Has anyone driven to Pavones? We are planning a surf trip in June and would like to experience Pavones. We usuall rent a 4×4 and drive everywhere but I have heard it is a difficult track to Pavones. For anyone familiar witn Costa Rica we drove from Tamarindo to Mais Pais last year, we drove straight down and it was quite difficult, also Negra can be a tough drive at times, how will Pavones compare? Im trying to put it in perspective and decide if we should just pay someone to take us. Any help is appreciated.
For directions to, as well as current conditions in and on the way to Pavones email Alan “Capt.Zero” Weisbecker or you can use the email at the bottom of the Pavones page.

I’m thinking of retireing out of the US. Anyone have any suggestions?
I am going to retire somewhere where it is “dirt cheap” to live. Some reasonable medical facilities for American’s in the area would be best. Thinking about Costa Rica. Many places I have checked into used to be cheap but as more and more American’s have retired to those places, the definition of “inexpensive” or “cheap” has changed. While some of these places are still reasonably, they are more than I would like to pay. Moving to another country with another family or companion in similar circumstances to share expenses with would not be out of the question. To old to take chances so I would definetly do a background check on anyone I would consider living with. I am 55 and would like to make this move within the next year. Should I first visit the location you suggest and if so, any suggestions on how to get the real feel of the place you suggest? My needs are few and I prefer a location with mild climate, down to earth people, and not a bunch of hustle and bustle. Thanks!
You might want to consider Thailand. Nice friendly people with accommodating culture. Medical services are pretty advanced with reasonable pricing. Cost of living is relatively low compared to other cities in Asia.

When visiting a country like Costa Rica, one rich in idyllic white-and-black sandy beaches, lush rain forests, and a profusion of active volcanoes, it’s imperative that tourists seize any and every opportunity to explore the versatile landscape. For those privileged enough to visit the enchanting country, and even more so the region of Guanacaste, there’s one spot in particular that will undeniably rouse awe and wonder, humility and apprehension: Arenal Volcano, Costa Rica’s most renowned and active volcano.
Among the plethora of volcanoes that dot Costa Rica’s varied terrain, Arenal Volcano is Costa Rica’s most highly-regarded and frequently visited. It doesn’t take much to discover why; as one of the world’s top 10 most active volcanoes, Arenal Volcano offers recurrent, explosive performances, as the incendiary volcano spews plumes of smoke, ash, and florescent red lava from its voluminous crater.
For Costa Rica, Arenal Volcano has become an emblem of sorts, the towering stratovolcano a symbol of the country’s beauty, diversity, and ecological prowess. Lunging up from the earth at a staggering 1,670 meters, the Arenal Volcano continues to mesmerize eco-tourists, who travel the world over to witness the volcano’s tantalizing, colorful eruptions.
For adventurous itinerants in pursuit of a majestic destination, Arenal Volcano is definitely a mesmerizing attraction, its omnipotent presence taking dominion over Costa Rica’s lush, tropical landscape. For optimum views, however, the powerful Arenal should be observed in the evening, as clouds often obstruct full, day time panaromas. Fortunate guests will view Arenal Volcano in a most spectacular form: stirred from slumber, shooting glowing lava against a deep, night sky.
