Hey guys, we just want to get the word out about SHARK FINNING and Longline Fishing off the coast of Costa Rica. If you’re like me, you may not have known a whole lot about shark finning and longline fishing and the IMPACT it has on the CIRCLE of LIFE. Although I’m not sure how you wouldn’t care about SHARKS and Sea Turtles, technically regardless of what you think about these magnificent sea creatures, it’s MUCH BIGGER than that… millions of sharks are killed each year solely for their fins. And the TRUTH is, it’s an ASIAN thing. It’s traditional to ENJOY shark fin soup for just about any IMPORTANT occasion and it is also a sign of STATUS in the Asian culture, which MEANS- supply and demand. That said, the food chain is severely effected by the killing of SHarks… and that’s not to mention the affects of longline fishing which kills thousands of sea turtles each year. There are laws in place in Costa Rica to combat this problem, unfortunately they are NOT enforced. We need to get the word out.

The impact of the comments from family members, friends, business ociates, sales clerks, waitresses and casual encounters with others made us realize that the upcoming road trip adventure we are about to embark on was extraordinary, courageous and of great interest to others.
Here are some of the repetitive comments we heard: * “You can drive to Costa Rica?” * “Puerto Rico, where’s Puerto Rico?” * “Aren’t you afraid of traveling through all of those countries?” * “Can I go with you?”

Our research of those having made the trip was scarce with one exception. Our video production business allows us to capture in a documentary way the daily challenges, joy and freedom we expect to experience on THE GREAT ESCAPE.

We leave Seattle, Washington for a visit with friends and family along the way expecting to leave the U.S. via Brownsville, Texas following Labor Day weekend. Our route will take us down the eastern coast of Mexico, crossing into Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and finally arriving in Costa Rica.

Papa Pez Restaurant is located in El Pueblo- right in the front to be exact. We’ve eaten there a few times and the food is ALWAYS tasty and fairly inexpensive. This PLACE gets pretty crowded in the early evening and the atmosphere is quite festive, always a PLUS. After dining, we would HIGHLY recommend hanging OUT in El Pueblo and checking out some of the BARS and CLUBS… it gets VERY lively in El Pueblo at night and there’s something for just about any taste. Even 2 for 1 tequila shots if you’re so inclined. So, check out Papa Pez for drinks and/or dinner and we’re pretty sure you won’t be disappointed. Check out the pics of the FOOD, makes my mouth water. Pura Vida.

Raquel Castro, de 18 años de edad, y vecina de San Isidro de El General fue coronada reina del Festival Costa Ballena.

La primera dama fue Jarly Marín, vecina de Ojochal, y la segunda dama Stephanie López, vecina de Dominical.

Fueron escogidas como señorita simpatía Amanda Rodríguez, vecina de Dominical, y como señorita fotogénica, Raquel Cordero, reina de Costa Ballena.

En dicho certamen participaron 10 candidatas, cuatro que son de Pérez Zeledón y seis de Costa Ballena.
