Coffee, Costa Rica style…. Coffee lovers poll: What style or type of coffee do you prefer?
I like a strong coffee. Like either a French or Italian roast, or from Columbia, Costa Rica or even Brazil.
I also take it black without sugar or anything at all, just pure coffee
100% Kona coffee is my favorite. I also love strong coffee! I like the kind of coffee that puts hair on your chest and I’m a girl! Only black coffee straight up for me. No sugar, cream or milk, thank you very much. Otherwise, what’s the point right?!

Hotel La Condesa Is This A Good Holiday Deal ? ? ?
I’m taking my wife and two 15 year old daughters to Mallorca in July for 10 nights, all inclusive.
We are staying at a hotel named Condesa de la Bahia, which has good ratings.
All together is costs £2770 which is about £747 per person.
We are going with Thomson if that matters. Would you say it’s a good deal or would we be able to get it any cheaper with another company ?
Thanks !
forgot to mention that includes flights
not booked yet thankfully! no they are just classing my daughters as children.
the hotel is a 3 star
the hotel is a 3 star
That sounds quite expensive, it’s not even peak season then. Booking that far ahead should mean it’s cheaper, at the very least the flights will be less.
I don’t know what star rating the hotel is though?
**** Edit **********************
For a 3 star hotel in Mallorca that is too expensive I think. I know holidays will be more expensive this year but that still seems too high to me.
You should get on the Internet and do some price comparisons, there are hundreds of holiday websites to choose from.
**** Edit 2 *******************
Out of interest as I was looking at holidays myself and I entered the same hotel as you with the same parameters. The price you were quoted is cheaper than either of the sites I checked. It could be that that particular hotel is just expensive.

The Guaro – Costa Rica‘s National Drink That’s Not To Be Messed With
Each and every country has a singular libation that it claims as its own. In Costa Rica, the libation of choice is Guaro beverages. There’s a certain state pride related to saying an alcoholic libation. Think about Mexico, and tequila straight away is evoked. Vodka, naturally, goes with Russia. Visit Greece and an ouzo headache can not be far behind. Aquavit in Sweden will certainly turn your head and stomach.
Costa Rica, naturally, could not lose out on the excitement. Guaro depending on which barkeeper you talk to, Guaro is either a mind erasing alcohol drink or an energy drink with a little kick. Regardless of visiting Costa Rica on many occasions, I have not attempted this potent drink and for good reason.
Well, some time ago, a few of us were hanging out in the beach city of Carrillo just taking in the evening after another day in the sun. Carrillo is a great town for fishing and some classic surf spots are close by. It is analogous to Tamarindo, but without the overpowering expatriate influence. Unfortunately, Carrillo is intensely tame at night. Put an alternative way, there’s actually zilch to do. A bit bored, we had congregated in a cafe overlooking the sea. Tables and chairs had been pushed together and we had reached the point in the evening where we were telling lies about how great we used to be. The barkeeper / owner approached our table and recommended we had not experience Costa Rica until we had sampled Guaro.
One of our fellow mates were chosen. Known humorously as Mexico Joe, our guinea pig was experienced in the manners of Mexican Tequila. Mexico was remotely close to Costa Rica, so that the drinks were likely similar. Indeed, Mexico Joe was the person for the job. The shot glass came. Jokes were made. Joe thru it back. A small scowl, a lime, slaps on the back and general laughter. Just as we started egging one another on to be the new person to experience Costa Rica, an amusing thing occurred. Mexico Joe was becoming Pink Joe.
Laughter quickly stopped and a general concern spread across the table like the rash quickly developing on his arms. We were doubtless 3 hours from a surgery and the term pink eye was taking on a much bigger meaning. His whole skin was slowly turning pink! You could really see it moving down his arms and across his chest. His fiancé, Linn, wasn’t at all happy! It’s got to be a peculiar feeling to sit there and watch your skin change colors. Joe was cracking jokes as is his nature, but there had been a definite strain to his giggle. Luckily, the reaction shortly slowed and retreated. Inside twenty minutes, he was good as new and we had a new story to take note of. We generally passed on further offers of Guaro. A traveler has to understand their limits!

Costa Rica Nature Can anyone provide pictures and information about San Rafael de Coronado in Costa Rica?
I’m doing a project about a language school in Costa Rica, San Rafael. I picked San Rafeal de Coronado as the city, and now I can’t seem to find enough research information. I tried google images, but LITERALLY one image came up and that was it. Anyone know of attractions in or around San Rafael de Coronado and or know of any nature areas and can provide information (preferably pictures?)
Thanks!
Ledah,
I live very near to San Rafael de Vasquez de Coronado. The language school you are referring to is most likely Academia Tica and the contact person I know there is Rodolfo Madrigal.
In Costa Rica the neighborhood (barrio) name like “San Rafael” simply denotes an area near the main city (ciudad) like “Vasquez de Coronado”. San Rafael de Coronado is an otherwise indistinguishable semi-rural area between Coronado and Las Nubes de Coronado.
I have chronicled pictures and life in this area of Costa Rica via my blog www.CostaRicaBlogger.com and the below listed picture albums.

Manuel Antonio Park, Costa Rica
Things To See On Your Holidays In Costa Rica
Costa Rica is geographically a small country, but despite this, nobody can deny that it has an endless number of attractions and places to see. It has over 50 beaches and more than 160 parks, reserves and conservation areas and several of the most active volcanoes in the world Site seeing is a never ending pleasure in Costa Rica. Costa Rica has plenty of activities to keep each visitor active.
Lets take for example the highlight of Costa Rica’s southern Pacific coast, the Manuel Antonio Park. The park is a small but popular place because of its white sandy beaches and dense rain forest. Sunbathers flock to the beaches throughout the week. This stretch of coastline between the Nicoya and Osa peninsulas has several other low-key beach towns, including Playa del Jaco.
Costa Rica is one of the most biologically diverse places in the world. In regard to this, more than a quarter of Costa Rica is under protection that includes some conservation areas and forest reserves. The Monteverde Cloud Forest Preserve, on the other hand, requires an arduous uphill drive on unpaved roads. Upon reaching it, the trek is worth the hike through the cloud forest. There are a lot of flora and fauna that thrive in the environment.
The quetzal, an iridescent green bird with an extravagant long tail, is the most popular spot in the Forest. Many one of a kind species can be seen. It includes the rain frog and other colourful amphibians. You can also lure the dangerous tarantulas out of their lairs should you choose to.
In San Jose and the Central Valley, there are a lot of activities that it sure to keep every tourist on the go. One of its many interesting attractions is the Museo del Oro Precolombino, which exhibits gold dating back to 500 A.D. The Museo del Jade, with its impressive, ornate jade collection. The distant surrounding has many rainforest between villages. People can explore the rain forest by boat through a system of canals that bring each one close to spider monkeys and three-toed sloths.
The Tortuguero National park has its endangered sea turtles. Between June and October, people can witness the large green turtles returning to the beach where they were born to lay eggs.
Lake Arenal is one of the country’s largest bodies of water, it is a relatively undiscovered region. People can easily find last minute accommodation to rent, even during high seasons. The activities can range from horseback riding to windsurfing. The most popular attraction is the Volcan Arenal. Many tourists spend the night here just to catch a glimpse of the country’s most active volcano. They watch the lava flow down the volcano’s western side. This experience is truly awesome and completely unforgettable.
Another popular attraction is the remarkable Corcovado National Park. It is said to be incredibly rich in biodiversity, with the largest primary tropical rain forest in the region and an incredible array of animals and birds.
